Tallgrass: Better Than Ever
With the 2011 golf season around the corner, Tallgrass Golf Course in Shoreham is gearing up for another award-winning year. The highly touted facility ranks among Golfweek’s “Best Courses You Can Play in New York” and offers the only true-links style, public-access course on Long Island.  Golfers may walk or ride in one of course’s brand new carts, seven days a week, with rates starting at only $50.

“With a great layout and location, Tallgrass is a wonderful value for golfers living in—or traveling through—Suffolk County.  We feel we have a gem of affordable golf, designed by one of the country’s most formidable golf course designers,” says Christopher Schiavone, president of RDC Golf Group, the management company
for Tallgrass.

In 2000, Tallgrass burst onto the Met area golf scene to stellar reviews, and represented one of New York-native Gil Hanse’s earliest designs.  Hanse has continued to amass numerous awards throughout his prolific career, including being named GOLF Magazine’s “Architect of the Year” in 2009.

“At Tallgrass, we concentrated on creating interesting holes that would focus on strategy and angles that would reward the thoughtful golfer as opposed to the long hitter,” says Hanse. “The combination of beauty in the landscape, creativity in the design and fun and interest in the play of the course is what makes Tallgrass special.”

The 6,587 yard, par-71 course features expansive fairways and undulating greens framed by rugged pot bunkers, large sandy waste areas, and the thick fescue grasses that give the course its name.

In addition to the stellar golf, Tallgrass offers a picturesque Hamptons-style clubhouse complete with a casual, pub-style restaurant and large event venue; grass driving range; and fully-stocked pro shop.

New in 2011 will be the opening of the clubhouse patio for cocktails and dining, offering golfers a picturesque and inviting 19th hole setting.  Tallgrass also recently announced a partnership with the renowned Inn & Spa at East Wind, making Tallgrass a true golf  “destination.”

A new “Golfers Stay & Play” all-inclusive package offers leisure golfers a round of golf, luxurious accommodations at East Wind, breakfast at the hotel’s noteworthy Desmond’s restaurant, and a massage in its elegant spa.  Packages start at $289 per guest/night—double occupancy (Sun. – Thurs.). For more information contact www.tallgrassgc.com or call East Wind reservations at (631) 929-3500.

Individual tee time rates are $50 (weekdays before 9am), $60 weekdays and $79 on weekends, all including cart fees.  Annual play passes start at $1695 (twilight), and offer golfers amenities such as advance tee time reservations and discounted cart fees, merchandise and guest fees.   For more information visit the course’s website at www.tallgrassgc.com or call (631) 209-9359.
