Hall of Fame Induction Finds New Place on the Calendar
Induction Ceremony to Kick Off 2011 PLAYERS Championship
The new spring date for the World Golf Hall of Fame’s annual Induction Ceremony will shine a light on the significant event, bringing greater attention to the Class of Inductees and Hall of Fame members whose stories reveal the sport’s rich history.
For the past 10 years, the World Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony has been held in the fall. However, the new spring date—Monday, May 9, 2011—will situate the Ceremony in a more visible spot on the golf calendar. The Ceremony will take place at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., on Monday of THE PLAYERS Championship, which takes place that week just up the road in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
PGA TOUR Commissioner, Tim Finchem, also a World Golf Foundation board member, acknowledged the value of moving the Hall’s featured event by saying, “Moving the Induction Ceremony to the spring will heighten the event’s exposure in a variety of ways and will add a new level of excitement to THE PLAYERS for fans, media, sponsors as well as past and current players.”
Hall of Fame Chief Operating Officer Jack Peter agreed. “Staging the annual Induction Ceremony in the heart of the golf season, just before one of golf’s most thrilling events, is a great opportunity for the Hall of Fame,” he said. “The spring date is sure to give fans around the world an even better opportunity to witness the celebration.”
There are five avenues for induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame: PGA TOUR Ballot, International Ballot, LPGA Point System, Lifetime Achievement Category and Veterans Category. Announcements for the inductees—Class of 2011—will be announced this fall.
The 2011 World Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at World Golf Village, home of the World Golf Hall of Fame, in St. Augustine, Fla.
The World Golf Hall of Fame, a 501(c)3 nonprofit institution, honors the history of golf by recognizing and preserving the legacies of the game’s greatest players and contributors. To learn more about the World Golf Hall of Fame and the 2011 Induction Ceremony, visit
