A New Era in Golf Shoes

A New Era in Golf Shoes

You can have the best golf clubs and golf balls on the market but if your feet and slipping and sliding you aren’t going to get much out of your swing. Thus, the importance of a well-made, good-fitting pair of golf shoes with which to secure your stance to terra firma in all types of weather and turf conditions.
The golf shoe can be traced back to the 1800’s when players wore rudimentary foot apparel that had small nails or sprigs attached to their undersides. During the late 18th century the removable, or replaceable, metal spike was introduced, mostly delighting golfers but raising the ire of greens keepers everywhere.
During the early 20th century, what is now FootJoy began making and selling golf shoes that were both highly functional and stylish. They quickly became the talk of the links, especially among the fashion-conscious patrons of the country’s private country clubs.
One of the biggest leaps in technology came about in the 1970’s when rubber soles were inserted into shoes to provide golfers much greater degrees of comfort and flexibility. The shoe maker Etonic was instrumental in bringing waterproof treatment of leather to the forefront, which kept the feet of the wearers of golf shoes drier in rainy conditions.
Thanks in large part to the desire of golf course caretakers and players who wanted more pristine putting surfaces, the metal spike finally gave way to the plastic, or soft, spike that is so common on today’s golf shoes.
Golf shoes are models of form and function, offering super traction in all conditions. They also come in a wide array of styles and colors, ranging from the traditional “saddle” shoe to those resembling running sneakers.
Let’s take a look at these high tech wonders that keep our puppies firmly planted on the ground and happy at the same time.
