Still have a plaid pair of pants
and a three inch wide white belt in your golf collection? There’s no need to stand out in your foursome…. loan that apparel to Jesper Parnevik and pull on that pair of Dockers. You know you have them…in fact, 80 percent of us own a pair and they are more than likely the tried and true khakis that always look great whether you’re on the course or in the office.
Dockers has spent years making golfers look good but this season is going to be different. In addition to an expanded line of Dockers Tour apparel introduced this year, the guys famous for making those Levis jeans we’ve been wearing forever are about to make you look great both on and off the course with their line of better men’s sportswear affectionately called Montego Mon that features an island theme that works on the first tee as well as the 19th hole and beyond.
"The best part is the price," says Bryan Frahm, National Sales Manager for Dockers Tour. “Then Montego Mon line works wonderfully on the golf course and then looks just as great in the night club.”
There are 29 new camp shirts that anchor the collection. The 100% virgin silk shirts are available in a variety of textured fabric prints in new rich colors. Highlights include a heavier weight 100% virgin silk , prints, vertical stripes and plaids. In addition, the full printed knits include sea flowers, tiki huts, autumn leaves and batiques prints.
The Montego Mon bottoms are also silk and include pleated, flat front, half and full elastic, cargo and drawstring in herringbone and twill. Colors include stone, khaki, olive, sage, and black. The collection also features jeans, swim trunks, two kinds of jackets and accessories such as silk boxer shorts, printed silk ties and leather sandals.
Some of the designs incorporated in the collection are new to Dockers as they are more of a conservative company when it comes to golf clothing. In fact Frahm says the company likes to describe themselves as "middle of the fairway," when it comes to design as they know their customer quite well.
"Dockers is a billion dollar brand and boasts the #1 casual bottom (pants) in the world," says Frahm. That familiarity with the customer extends to the clothes buyer himself.
"A golfer has such a trust in the brand that he knows he can walk into any pro shop, select the color and, because they’re Dockers, he knows exactly what he’s getting," says Frahm.
Frahm describes the Dockers customer as a member of the conservative portion of the population. And they know that khakis never go out of style. Over 80 percent own a pair so we will continue to make clothes that those men can trust and will feel comfortable in.
"We use top of the line fabric that washes and dries so well that the clothing looks great and lasts a long time. We know our customer appreciates value, the shirts and pants are still under $50 and the shorts are under $40," says Frahm.
This year, Scott McCarron, two-time winner on the PGA TOUR, will look like a winner in his Dockers Tour apparel and John Ross will be wearing the line on the Champions Tour.
The Dockers Tour line for 2005 is broken down into three groups that will fit any golfer:
Core Essentials: Includes 100% washed cotton in short and long sleeve styles and seven colors. The perennial favorite two pleat Newport Short with Spot Lifter™ finish offers a wrinkle resistant 100% cotton .
"If you drop a chili dog on the pants, it wipes right off and won’t leave a stain," reminds Frahm, who has seen his share of fumbled on-course lunches as have the rest of us.
The Bel Air Pant is Dockers Tour top seller offering a two pleat design, wrinkle resistant 100% cotton and is also treated with Dockers famous Spot Lifter™ finish. This year, the coolection adds the Del Mar flat front pant, the Palisades two pleat pant, the Palos Verdes corduroy with two pleats and cuffed bottom. All shorts and pants are available in four colors – black, stone, khaki and navy.
Tour Collection: Features four exciting colors: Rust, Navy, Terra and Black in seven different fabrics and designs.
All Tour Collection knit polo shirts are double mercerized 100% cotton and feature three button design and open sleeves as well as mock neck shirts that have taken the PGA TOUR by storm. Tour collection shirts all retail under $50.
" We have found that the open sleeves and collar really help the moisture wicking process. There has to be air circulating in order to keep you dry and cool," says Frahm.
Clubhouse Collection: Carries the four color stories to sweaters. Tuscany is a v-neck sweater vest in 100% cotton and Milano is a long sleeve three button sweater.
The collection would not be complete without jackets. In 2005, Dockers Tour offers the Warm Up zip jacket made of 100% micro fleece, the Special T pull-over water repellent half zip, and the Northeaster full zip jacket with quilted lining.
The Dockers Tour line is in many pro shops and golf stores around the country. It can also be ordered online, where some of the odd sizes can be found if they are not stocked in your pro shop. Visit them at www.dockerstour.com.
