Acquisition of SuperStroke grips, New Presence on the PGA TOUR and Dedication to Innovative Designs
Untitled Document

When a professional golfer does well with a golf club on national television, golfing aficionados take notice. That was the case this week when KJ Choi carded a final round of 2-under-par 69 and finished in third place at the Northern Trust Open using a jumbo SuperStroke Putter Grip. The red and black Proline grip received a hefty amount of exposure over the weekend on the greens of Riviera Country Club.
Choi has won three PGA Tour events with the SuperStroke, and he started out the season with a T15th and 12th place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship and Sony Open, where he finished 9th in putting and 13th in putts per round, respectively. He has now earned $535,808 in 4 events this season using the jumbo sized grip.
The 20th ranked player in the world added that reduced hand pressure, a result of the SuperStroke’s large diameter, helps prevent pulled or pushed putts. The large surface area of SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips.
Tiger Shark Golf, a Michigan-based club manufacturer, acquired SuperStroke in January, making them the predominant oversized putter grip company in the industry. Their Legendary Jumbo putter grips have sold more than 1 million putter grips since Tiger Shark first launched the jumbo grip to the golf market.
“This is an absolutely colossal addition to the Tiger Shark family of products,” said Tiger Shark president Dean Dingman. “The acquisition allows us to become a major player in the industry as manufacturers of important putting innovations. We are turning a new corner at Tiger Shark, and putting technology is going to be our main niche. We have added a new and expansive sales team and also have enlisted famous club designer Jim Flood, the original founder of Odyssey putters and Aldila shafts. It is a very exciting time for us right now.”
Tiger Shark is a company on the rise. With the distinction of being the leader in the oversized grip market, Tiger Shark has manufactured 20 new models of putters between their Great White and GreenSpeed putter lines. The company’s new tagline, The New Innovators of Putting Innovation™, shows they are using their position as the top jumbo putter grip company to become a major force in the putter market. Their grips and putters will be sold in every major golf retailer in 2009, and their account base has quickly grown to around 2,000 accounts. The addition of inventor Jim Flood, also known as the Thomas Edison of golf for inventing the graphite shaft, the PowerPod driver and the Bassakwerd putter, gives to company a visionary designer that will push innovation to the limits. And with the millions of eyeballs watching KJ navigate the greens with the highly noticeable SuperStroke, the company is doing all the right things to succeed in a down economy.
The Michigan based company has also signed PGA TOUR player Matt Bettencourt, who enjoyed an amazing turn around on the Nationwide Tour last year after his switch to a SuperStroke grip. Bettencourt was ranked around 90th on the money list when he switched to the grip and went on to finish the year #1 on the final official Nationwide Tour money list.
“I switched to the SuperStroke Grip 13 weeks ago,” said Bettencourt after his victory at the 2008 Nationwide Tour Championship. “I went from around 150 to the top 50 in putting. It’s made all the difference in the world for me. It’s taken my hands out of it. I got really back and forth with the belly putter. But with this SuperStroke Grip, it’s been fantastic. It really changed my game.”
The large surface area of SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the hands and wrists. The Super Stroke’s size encourages use of a “soft hands” technique and ensures a smooth and fluid putting stroke. The SuperStroke installs quickly and easily to any putter.
