Escape to Great River Golf Club.
That's what the owners of Great River Golf Club in Milford ask you. It's a mistake to not heed their call.  


Since it opened several years ago, the Tommy Fazio design has won accolades as one of the best public courses in the Northeast. After some problems with an irrigation system that damaged a number of fairways two years ago, Great River is back in superb shape and once again the aesthetically pleasing test of golf it was intended to be.
You'd better bring plenty of game because Great River demands accurate shot-making and skill around and on its large, undulating greens. There are ample water hazards, a number of sand bunkers, tree-lined fairways and several forced carries over wetlands.

Perhaps the best hole on outward nine is the 426-yard, par-four fourth. It asks for an accurate driver or fairway wood off the tee to the edge of a large pond. The second shot is all carry to a green guarded by a solitary, deep bunker to the front right.

Number eight, a par-three, 230-yarder, calls for a full carry over wetlands to a large green. Par here is a very good score indeed.
The most charming hole on the course is the little, 158-yard, par-three 15th. The tee shot from an elevated green must carry a small creek that runs in front of the green. Stay away from a severe slope to the left of the putting surface that runs down to the Housatonic River.
