The Face of Putters Is Changing
Untitled Document

More than in years past, the face of putters is changing. The USGA has relaxed club adjustability rules to allow all kinds of things that have never been seen before. One of the most common improvements to putter technology centers around the quality of the roll each putter produces. Without a perfect stroke on perfect greens, it is common for the ball to skid the first few feet of a putt, causing the putt to go off-line. Much of the ingenuity aimed at improving the roll of the ball has come from smaller putter manufacturers, but that has now trickled down to the big boys. The result is more putters that are “out of the box,” meaning golfers have more choices than ever before.
Just because some of the putters on our list could easily double as a James Bond gadget, don’t be turned off by them. The conservative designs that putter manufacturers have favored in the past have given way to newer, sexier counterparts that are loaded with helpful technology to help you hole more putts. Designers are able to do almost anything—as long as it works, of course—and that’s a great thing for everyone. Check our list and find the one that’s right for you.

Cleveland VP Milled 1
  www.clevelandgolf.com | $190

Unique Features: With the Visual Performance (VP) Milled Putters, Cleveland Golf has produced a series of putters that will aid players by getting them into the correct address position every time. Using Dual Axis Alignment technology, golfers are now able to determine when their hands move out of position as well as detect when their eyes are not directly over the ball. The VP1 is a heel toes weighted classic blade design
Tester Comments: The weight is excellent, I enjoyed the “feel” at impact and had confidence on those ten footers to save par … Great value and put them in from all over the green.

F2 Hamilton HM1
  www.f2golf.com | $100

Unique Features: The F2 Hamilton HM1 makes use of a Microdome polymer face insert that ensures more points of contact with the golf ball, resulting in a smoother roll and more responsive feel on every putt.  The adjustable heel and toe weights adapt better to different putting surfaces, while the perimeter back weight design enlarges the sweet spot for minimized energy transfer loss and increased forgiveness on mis-hits.
Tester Comments: Solid Feel and good weight to this putter … Ball rolls off the face nicely … Adjusting weights was fun and I found a setting perfect for my stroke.

Gel Golf Paul Hurrion Sedo
  www.gelgolf.com | $165

Unique Features: GEL Golf worked with the experienced sports bio mechanist and putting coach Dr Paul Hurrion. As a result of his analysis of putting, Hurrion feels that the start of the roll is the most pivotal stage for determination of its accuracy. The grooved face creates a greater grip which delivers the desired topspin of the golf ball. The SEDO putter is a heel-toe, weighted blade fitted with a goose neck and with a slight offset. SEDO II putter is also heel-toe weighted though it’s a modified blade featuring a ‘crank-neck’ hosel and has a full shaft offset.
Tester Comments: I like standing over this putter. It’s very easy to line up and rolls the ball true … I had more control with the speed and line of the putt.

Heavy Putter F3-DF
  www.heavyputter.com | $200

Unique Features:  Each of the company’s putters is seriously heavy, including the F3-DF.  The extra-heavy clubhead and higher shaft balance point take the yips out of your swing, allowing your arms to swing freely.  The extreme heel-toe weighting, high center of gravity and thin face on the putter creates the pleasing “ping” sound, and the arrow cutout creates an excellent alignment aid. The putter head has CNC milled surfaces and is fully face balanced. The head weighs approximately 465 grams, and there is a 250 gram weight in the grip end of the shaft that creates a balance point that is 75% higher up the shaft than a conventional putter.
Tester Comments: Heavy, but nice soft feel … The most stable putter I have ever used … Great on Short putts.

Mizuno Bettinardi Milled Black Carbon BC1
  www.Mizunogolf.com | $300

Unique Features: To help achieve a soft-insert feel in a non-insert putter, designer Bob Bettinardi uses a FIT face milled area to dramatically reduce the surface area of where the ball makes contact while maintaining its precision-milled characteristics because of its one-piece construction. The milled face has a punch pattern on the carbon-steel head.. The series includes two blade-like models with a Black chrome finish for maximum glare resistance on the green.

Tester Comments: Feels, sounds and strokes brilliantly … Sleek, classic, good looking putter feels like butter ... Very easy to line up and puts a perfect roll on the ball.

Nike IC 20-10
  www.NikeGolf.com | $159

Unique Features: By using optical engineering to tune the color, shape, and contrast of the entire club, the visual footprint of the shaft and the clubhead itself is reduced. Everything is green—the clubhead, the shaft and the grip with the exception of white alignment lines that aid in setting the putter squarely to the ball. This dramatically emphasizes the alignment aid, enhancing your ability to visualize the ball track at address. Now you can pull of a little visual trick of your own: making the ball disappear from sight.
Tester Comments: After using it for just one 18-hole round of golf, I realized how “noisy” my vision previously was! Great Concept and better putter … Optical engineering behind the IC putter is easy to use and it is easy to line up any putt.

Ping Anser i-Series
  www.PingGolf.com | $140

Unique Features:  The two-piece insert combines a urethane insert and face appliqué to produce a firm response with a soft feel. The thicker urethane insert provides the firmness required for a solid response. The thin, applique ensures a soft feel. New models include the Craz-E and Moon designs which feature increased MOI and easier alignment. Golfers loyal to the more traditional designs can choose from proven favorites, including the Anser and Zing models.
Tester Comments: This putter was just what I was looking for, insert putter without that dull insert sound and feel …  It’s weighted well, nice to look at, and easy to line up.

Ping Karsten Series Anser 2
  www.PingGolf.com | $100

Unique Features: For golfers preferring the performance of a steel face with an insert feel, the Karsten Series meets the criteria.  An Elastomer insert in the cavity enhances feel and maintains the solid response of a steel-faced putter. Its perimeter-weighted steel body is designed to be forgiving on off-center hits, and the two-level alignment aid helps improve aim and square the putter at address.
Tester Comments: Classic old ping blade style, cant go wrong for the price … This putter feels very well balanced. Sits nicely behind the ball, easy to control your distance and under a hundred dollars.

Q-Roll Classic IV
  www.qroll.com | $200

Unique Features: The Q-Roll Classic series sports classic looks with forward-thinking roll technology.  The Classic V1 is a traditional heel shaft with flange blade design and a simple but effective alignment stripe.  Q-Roll’s patented Radius Face technology jumpstarts roll by striking the top half of the ball producing immediate top-spin and a true, forward role for improved control and accuracy. Q-Roll putters automatically deliver a “true roll” that leading Tour Professionals practice for hours to achieve. The brass/nickel alloy provides a solid feel and eye-catching look on any green.

The result is a 100% CNC Milled line of putters in a class by itself. The LieAline Fitting System allows you to line up the center vertical notch with the cavity alignment line and guarantees consistent setup. The RollGroove Technology helps eliminate skidding and reduces effects of grass grain for a more consistent roll.
Tester Comments: This gave the “roll” back in my putting “stroke” … Easy to align - great balance - best feel I have had in quite a while.

Seemore mFGP
  www.seemore.com | $325

Unique Features: The new mSeries milled putters combine the beauty, precision, accuracy, and feel of 100% milled heads with the proprietary alignment benefits of Rifel Scope Technology. RST allows the golfer to set up the putter perfectly square to the intended target line each and every time, by lining up the black bottom portion of the shaft between two white lines and covering a signature red dot on the heel of the top line. It is like locking radar onto a target. SeeMore putters with RST also help the golfer establish a system for continuous improvement with visual feedback.

Odyssey White Hot XG Sabertooth® Putter
  www.odysseygolf.com | $215

Unique Features: The new White Hot XG Sabertooth® Putter represents the latest in innovative, high moment of inertia (MOI) designs from Odyssey. Sabertooth was on display at the U.S. Open when it helped Rocco Mediate on the greens during his epic battle at Torrey Pines.
Featuring the most radical headshape in golf, Sabertooth utilizes high-density dual fangs to position more weight to the outer-most limits, helping keep the putter on-line during the stroke for wicked accuracy. These dual “fangs” give Sabertooth its outer profile and contain 38% of the putter’s mass. Sabertooth has the highest MOI of any one piece steel putter Odyssey has ever made. The increase in MOI benefits the golfer by remaining extremely stable during the stroke and at impact, resulting in more consistency and repeatability.
The putter is also designed with “Aiming Channels” inside the fangs, which extend rearward from the center of the putter, making lining up putts easier. These channels contain bold, elongated sightlines which aid in aligning the putter to the target. This alignment feature is beneficial for those golfers who desire a more subtle, linear alignment mark.
Sabertooth contains a multi-layer White Hot XG insert, our most popular insert, which combines soft feel with responsiveness. Constructed from a soft elostomer core, that is highly resilient for exceptional feel and truer roll, and a thin, firm outer striking surface infused with urethane, to provide fine-tuned responsiveness. The insert allows weight to be shifted to the perimeter of the head for higher MOI and better stability.
Odyssey’s heritage is rooted in this full line of Tour golf putters that are geared for pros and amateurs alike. Offered in a variety of head shapes, golfers will be sure to find an incredible feeling putter that will give them confidence to take their game to the next level.
