The Keller Williams Amateur Golf Tour gives amateurs of all ages, all across the United States a great chance to play competitive golf against other amateurs with the same skill ability.
I joined the Keller Williams tour to play some competitive golf and to see if I could raise my level of skill by playing with more experienced players. I have had some great times while playing golf with the adults. The guys are really fun to be around. Even though we are competitive with each other, we are still out there to enjoy.
The Match Play Championship was by far the most fun event I have played in all year. I got to play against each amateur in my division, beating some but getting "whomped" by others. Although the tournaments are competitive, it is relaxing to step away from the cutthroat-like atmosphere of junior golf tournaments.
The constant pressure puts a lot of wear and tear on your self-esteem. I have greatly enjoyed my experiences on the tour and have also made some new friends. These guys have taught me what golf is really about.
It was great to win my first tournament on the tour. It took such a long time to beat Carter Counts. Whenever he played poorly I played worse and whenever I played well he played better. It was the double points tournament at World Tour Gold Links so the win couldn’t have come at a better time.
I was getting worried that I would never play well on the tour because my first four rounds were terrible. My average would have put me in the bottom of the A Flight. It felt really good to post a score below par. It is amazing what happens to your confidence level when you achieve something that you have been striving to do.
I would just like to take a little time and say to my parents that without you I would have never been able to progress in golf. After my grandfather introduced the game to me I was obsessed. I had three plastic clubs from Target and a "whiffel" ball.
I would run around the back yard hitting the ball at every tree I could find. After some years I graduated into tournament golf and started competing in the local junior leagues. Then came the big tournaments where my mom would drive my three hours away to Los Angeles.
Now that we live in South Carolina, we travel as far as Florida. Without my mother shuttling me around my father working to bring in the money I would never have been able to succeed. They deserve all the credit for what I am able to do today.
A big shout out to my coach Brewster Bassette for all of his time and faith he has devoted to me. I also want to acknowledge John Livoti for having me, a 15 year old ,on the Keller Williams Amateur Golf Tour. It’s been a great season with you guys. Thank you.
