Videtta Golf Management Providing Affordable Public Golf
Videtta Golf Management prides itself on providing quality golf at an affordable price. VGM operates three courses, Laurel Lane Country Club and Country View Golf Club in Rhode Island and Pine Ridge Country Club in Massachusetts.

“I think what makes us successful operators is our experience on the agronomy side and the golf side of our business,” says Joe Videtta, co-owner of the company along with his brother, Mike. “We operate very efficiently and thus are able to provide very affordable golf to the public. We also have great staffs that are people friendly and enjoy working at the courses. At Laurel Lane and Pine Ridge we also have exceptional food and beverage operations, a very popular attraction. Each year we always find projects to do at all the courses to improve our product.”

Currently, Videtta Golf is renovating the fifth hole at Laurel Lane, located in. At Pine Ridge and Country View, tee box renovations and drainage work has been underway the past several years.

“We continue to support junior golf at each course which we feel is very important,” says Videtta “Each year we host a PGA Junior Little League at Laurel Lane. South Kingstown. Narragansett, Oxford, and Chariho high schools have all used our facilities at no charge during their seasons the past several years. We also provide reduced rates for these juniors during the summer. These kids are our future.”

Videtta and his brother started in golf working in a pro shop at the age of nine for their father, Rudy, a PGA golf pro. “Mike went to Stockbridge School of Agriculture, worked summers at The Country Club of Brookline, and then went west to Los Angeles, where he worked at Lakeside of Hollywood as assistant. From there he became head super at San Diego Country Club for 10 years. I became assistant pro at Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton, Ma. for dad and then head pro there, where I worked for 34 years. Mike and I leased Norwood Country Club for nine seasons and then went on to purchase Laurel Lane and Country View in 1997, and Putnam Country Club (since sold and now Connecticut National Golf Club) and Pine Ridge were added during the next two years.

Laurel Lane CC is a well-maintained, par-71, 6,128-yard course located just off Route 138 in West Kingston, R.I. The track has relatively few bunkers and is a splendid place for all skill levels to play. Better have your game warmed up because Laurel Lane throws some difficulty at you right away. The first hole is a 412-yard par-four, the second, a 482-yard par-five that tempts payers to go for the green in two after a big drive, and the third a challenging, 189-yard par-three. The backside has several short par-fours where birdie awaits and a great, 548-yard par-five to end your round.

Laurel Lane has two lounges and bar areas with a dining area and a top notch pro shop.

Country View, off Route 7 in Harrisville, R.I., is lined with majestic willow trees and routed over a rolling terrain. Bunkers are strategically placed, and the greens are on the small side and rather difficult to hit, which places a premium on chipping ability. The par-fours on the front side are very good risk-reward holes, while the only par-five on the outward nine being the 475-yard sixth, which is very reachable in two for long hitters. The back side toughens up the course, with two stringent par-fours, and two strong par-threes, including the 199-yard 17th.

There’s a lounge and bar area, a restaurant for lunch and dinner and a first class pro shop.

Pine Ridge, located just south of Worcester in North Oxford, Ma., is a picturesque, par-71, 6,002-yard layout that provides plenty of challenge despite is overall short total distance. Pine Ridge is a shot-maker’s delight, with several drivable par-fours, reachable-in-two par-fives, and tough par-threes that demand sound club selection and pinpoint accuracy. A pleasingly eclectic mixture of relatively easy and demanding holes can be found right out of the box. The first hole is a 308-yard par-four that cries out for the player to hit driver; number two is a short, 150-yard par-three; the third is a beefy, 202-yard par-three; and the fifth is a demanding, 403-yard par-four.

Facilities include a restaurant and banquet area, which are perfect for small or large groups.
