Ragged Mountain Resort
Ragged Mountain Resort in Danbury, N.H. has everything you want from a stay and play destination, including one very good golf course.
The layout here offers superb views of the surrounding north New England countryside but don’t get caught up in the natural beauty of the area, because the course is a stern test of golfing ability. The tips have a rating of 74.9 and a slope of 149, which gives you an indication of the challenge you’ll face here. Here’s a tip worth heeding; play two markers down, especially if you a mid-handicap golfer or higher, and you’ll enjoy your round to a much greater degree. You should also be prepared to take what the course gives you and not force the issue. Bogey on some holes here is a very good score indeed.
The second hole at Ragged Mountain is a 541-yard par-five that has danger lurking everywhere. There is a stream that must be avoided and water short and right of the green, making any layup a dicey proposition.
The par-four sixth hole looks simple on the scorecard, only 344 yards from the back markers. But the approach shot must be hit with two extra clubs because it’s uphill to the putting surface.
