THE WACCAMAW GOLF TRAIL The Place to Celebrate the Arrival of Spring Golf Season

After the winter that we’ve has just experienced, it’s probably safe to say that this is one of the most anticipated spring golf seasons in decades. What better place to celebrate than along the sunny Carolina Coast. For golfers who gravitate toward premium golf, accommodations and dining establishments, may we recommend a visit to the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand’s southern shores, more commonly known as the Hammock Coast. One of the many highlights is its collection of award-winning courses that collectively make up what is known in golf circles as the Waccamaw Golf Trail.

Here you’ll find eleven award-winning courses, including: Blackmoor; Caledonia Golf & Fish Club; Heritage Club; Litchfield Country Club; Pawleys Plantation; River Club; TPC Myrtle Beach; Tradition Club; True Blue Golf Club; Wachesaw Plantation East; and Willbrook Plantation. Golfweek Magazine recently ranked four of these courses among the “Top 15 in South Carolina”.  Most were built upon the sites of 18th and 19th century rice and indigo plantations. Ancient moss-draped oaks, flowering azaleas and camellias, and gently flowing tidal rivers create a beautiful backdrop for some of the best course designs in America.

The Waccamaw Golf Trail offers a variety of accommodations, ranging from golf villas overlooking the fairways of Pawleys Plantation and True Blue Golf Club, to the deluxe hotel suites and oceanfront condominiums at Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort, to quaint beach houses and bed-n-breakfast establishments scattered throughout the region.

Off the course, golfers enjoy award-winning restaurants like Frank’s, Quigley’s Pint and Plate, Pawleys Prime and Bistro 217, along with many more set along Murrells Inlet’s wooden Marshwalk, including Wahoo’s Fish House, Drunken Jack’s and Hot Fish Club. There’s also treasure trove of unique boutiques at the Hammock Shops in Pawleys Island, historic points of interest, miles of tranquil beaches and a wide assortment of resort amenities and accommodations. Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park are among the region’s many year-round natural attractions available to golfers and non-golfers.
