AMERICA’S VALUE GOLF DESTINATION Santee, South Carolina ‘From Cotton Fields to Golf Courses’
A book appeared on shelves that spotlights, this most unlikely of golf Mecca’s. “From Cotton Fields to Golf Courses.” is a pictorial history that chronicles the transformation of lively little Santee’s profitable cotton fields into even more profitable golf courses.
With three golf courses in this town of less than 800 people, the ‘trinity’ has become sacred ground for thousands of northern golfers who make the annual pilgrimage to play what some consider the “best valued golf” in North America.
Example: Golf packages that include rounds with power carts, accommodation and breakfast, start at just $59 a day.  Over 150,000 golfers took advantage of those deals last year.
There are 17 other courses a short drive from Santee, with a six pack about 20 minutes away on the north side of Lake Marion that include; Wyboo Golf Club, the Players Course at Wyboo Shannon Greens and Foxboro.  Alternatively a 40-minute drive to the Summerville area that offers up another half dozen top courses.  The nice part about playing in Summerville is that it puts you only 20 minutes from a night out Charleston.  Legend Oaks Plantation, Pine Forest and Crowfield Plantation are some of the favorites amongst traveling golfers to this area.
Santee accommodation varies from comfortable motel and hotel rooms to well designed and equipped 2-bedroom condos, some lakeside and some of which back onto the courses. All accommodation properties in Santee are within a mile of the 3 courses in town.
The town has lots of excellent dining and entertainment options as well: Our favorites being the elegant Clark’s Inn and Restaurant, Captain’s Kirks, fish and prime rib are the specialties there, Coasters, where the Jack Daniels steak is intoxicating and the rustic Lone Star restaurant.
SANTEE NATIONAL: Five lakes scattered, rolling fairways lined with massive oak trees and slick greens make the National a treat to play.
LAKE MARION GOLF COURSE: Wide fairways with challenging greens and 47 cleverly placed bunkers challenge golfers on what might just be the most fun course to play.
SANTEE COOPER RESORT COUNTRY CLUB: A serene setting on the south shore of majestic Lake Marion with tall pines lining its rolling fairways
The great thing about the courses in Santee is that they’re all within a short drive – think 3-wood here - of your accommodation and the town’s surprisingly vibrant nightlife.
