MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA Golf is Always in Season on the Carolina Coast

As we are preparing to go to press with this issue of Golfing Magazine, yet another cold Arctic blast of winter weather hit the Northeast, threatening further delay to the start of our spring golf season. Enough already! Myrtle Beach, here I come.

Over the years, I’ve had the good fortune to enjoy numerous visits to the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand, but can’t say that I’ve looked so forward to getting there as I am right now.  The forecast for this weekend in Myrtle Beach is sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60’s. With our trip just two weeks away, I’m expecting it to be even warmer.

I’ve started my escape plan to the sunny Carolina Coast by clicking my way through the pages of GolfHoliday.com, and I’ve uncovered some sweet deals on spring golf packages. And with affordable nonstop flights to Myrtle Beach from 25 cities, I’ve rallied some of my pals to meet me there for a long-overdue guys golf weekend. After all, isn’t that what Myrtle Beach is known for?

The biggest challenge of this assignment was deciding which courses to play. With over 100 great layouts set along 60 miles of coastline, I want to be sure we’re spending our time on the courses and not on the roads. There are several “must play” courses on my bucket list, and quite a few more that have come highly recommended.

With a pretty good handle on course selection, I submitted an online request for a quote from several of the leading golf packagers, along with their recommendations on where to stay and a list of popular restaurants. Within 24 hours, I received several great options with tee times and lodging for all eight of us. Flights are booked and my auto-reply is already programmed that I’ll be unavailable for a few days. I’m ready to put this long winter in my rearview mirror, and hang with my buds for a few days and several rounds in Myrtle Beach.
